Be Excellent to Each Other: Bill, Ted and the Teachings of Jesus

It has been rumored for many years, but a few weeks back Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves announced that they would be reviving their rolls of William “Bill” S. Preston Esq and Theodore “Ted” Logan in Bill and Ted 3: Face the Music.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m still excited about a third Bill and Ted movie. Not only were these funny movies filled with 80’s rock n roll, but it also taught me some valuable lessons in life. Some of these lessons are pretty theological as well.

Fourscore and… (looks at his pocket watch) seven minutes ago… we, your forefathers, were brought forth upon a most excellent adventure conceived by our new friends, Bill… and Ted. These two great gentlemen are dedicated to a proposition which was true in my time, just as it’s true today. Be excellent to each other. And… PARTY ON, DUDES!

Bill and Ted taught honest Abe this important lesson in the short amount of time together. He saw that they were the most excellent of friends, and tried to share this excellence with the world.

This might start to sound a little familiar if you have been to Sunday School class or a bible study.  In the Gospel according to Mark, there is a scene where Jesus is hanging out and having a conversation among the people when a teacher of the law comes up to him and asks Jesus what the greatest of the commandments are.  Jesus replied

30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

Mark 12:30-31

Jesus told them above all love God, and by doing this you will also love your neighbor. Loving your neighbor is very much the same as being excellent to each other!

When you think about being filled with the Holy Spirit, you are bearing all sorts for virtuous and excellent fruit. Showing love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness and self-control are all ways of being excellent in the Holy Spirit and loving your neighbor.

When you love God with all your mind, strength and soul you tend to love others as well, and you tend to find joy in all things in life. Living a life full of the Lord is righteous, and people see that and want to join in on the party, so live the spiritual party life. Have fun, celebrate in the name of Jesus!

So in the spirit of Bill and Ted and the teachings of Jesus,

“Be excellent to each other. And… PARTY ON, DUDES!”

      I’m glad you find benefit from my posts.I have not wrote an ebook. I feel that if God allows an income on my thoughts, it would be different from me selling my content. For now, I just hope that people might come to see God in a different light.

    1. Hello Debbi,

      Yes, I created my website using wordpress. It’s a basic wordpress theme, but most the feel is from me and not due to a theme. I went to school from graphic design, so this comes more of a knack for me.

  7. With havin so much content do you ever run into any issues of plagorism or copyright infringement? My website has a lot of completely unique content I’ve either created myself or outsourced but it looks like a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my authorization. Do you know any techniques to help stop content from being ripped off? I’d really appreciate it.

    1. Hello Laverne,

      Right now, I’m in the business of sharing the Gospel. If people are using my work to share Jesus, I’d hope that they would give me credit, but my bigger hope is that God gets the glory. Sorry, I don’t have a technique to help you stop that. I know many people write for a living, so I know that people ripping people off can cause issues. Best of luck with protecting your content on your website.
